Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS, originally Wi-Fi Simple Configuration) is a standard network security to create a home wireless network safe. PIN method may fail (see below) against brute-force attacks. Was created by the coalition Wi-Fi, introduced in 2006, the objective of the protocol is to allow home users who know little of the security of wireless networks, and may be intimidated by the security options available to set up Wi-Fi Protected Access, as well as making it easy to add devices new to the existing network without entering long passphrases. Before the standard, it has developed many competing solutions by different vendors to address the same need. It detected a major security flaw in December 2011, which affects the wireless routers with WPS PIN feature, which enabled the most modern models by default. Flaw allows remote attacker to retrieve the WPS PIN within a few hours with a brute-force attack, and with the WPS PIN, WPA / WPA2 pre-shared on the network switch. Users have been urged to stop the WPS PIN feature, although this may not be possible in some models router.
